The LEED Green Building Rating System
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ was first developed by the U.S. Green Building Council in 1998 to provide a set of standards against which environmentally sustainable construction could be measured. The goal is to give "building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings' performance."
To do this, LEED identifies a building's performance in the categories of sustainability, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality and innovation in design. Each category is then broken down into prerequisite and credit segments, such as storage and collection of recyclables, water use reduction, storm water design and recycled content. Each credit is assigned a potential number of points. The total amount of points a building is able to obtain through the LEED process earns it a Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum ranking.
Benefits of Obtaining a LEED Ranking for Buildings
Green designs provide financial benefits that conventional designs do not. The increased energy efficiency of a green building reduces heating and electric bills, water usage and waste, and the costs of operations and maintenance. Green buildings have been shown to enhance occupant productivity and health. Tax benefits are also available with the higher levels of LEED certification.
How Perforations Help You Earn LEED Points
Accurate Perforating has demonstrated expertise and decades of experience in helping our clients earn LEED points. In addition to offering guidance and support, we can help you fill out the required LEED certification documents.
We manufacture perforated sunscreens, sunshades, window screening, railing systems and facades that help compose a quality view by allowing visibility of the outdoors while preventing unwanted visibility from outside. Perforated products also reduce harsh sunlight/heat and allow the right amount of light into a building.
Accurate Perforating makes perforated components that assist in indoor air ventilation by providing perforated screening that allows for improved circulation of mechanically or naturally ventilated air. Plus, we manufacture perforated ceilings, walls, railing systems and facades that contribute to high-quality acoustic performance by reducing noise and tuning a room.
Based on our experience, the following perforated applications/characteristics can help you gain LEED points:
- Perforated sunscreens
- Sunshades
- Canopies
- Parapet walls
- Building facades
- Recycled content
- Recyclable content
- Materials supplied within 500 miles of the job site
- Materials with a low-VOC finish
